Why did the Chinese people resent the imperial house and foreigners

A

Qing had given rights to foreign powers to exploit China’s economic resources. Western powers brought their technology to change China’s economy.
They also brought missionaries to convert Chinese from their traditional religious beliefs. Included Buddhism to Christianity.
Many Chinese people regarded the westerners as foreign devils who had to be driven out of China if it was to be restored to greatness

What were some of the causes of the boxer uprisings

A

-188 Emperor Guangxu tried to modernise government and end the criticism of the Qing dynasty and its policy of making concessions to foreigners. His policy ‘hundred Days Reform’ strongly opposed by his aunt. She and her supporters seized the control of government ended the reforms

A

By late 1980s Chinese secret group, the Society of Righteous and Harmonious fist began carrying out attacks on foreigners and Chinese Christians. Boxers mainly peasants suffered natural disasters
