Communism
a social, political and economic theory based on equality in which all property is owned by the community and each person contributes and receives according to their ability and needs.
Ideology
A system of ideas and ideals, especially one which forms the basis of economic or political theory and policy.
Proletariat
The urban working class
Serfs
Peasants who worked as farmers and were tied to the land they worked on. A form of forced labour similar to slavery.
Means of Production
The land, labour and capital required to produce economic goods or services.
Nationalise
When government takes control and ownership of private property, industry and business.
Dictatorship
Total power is limited to an individual or small group with no opposition or resistance allowed.
Collectivisation
All agriculture is owned and managed by the government in order to attempt to streamline production.
Industrialisation
The process of switching from an agricultural based economy to a manufacturing based economy.
Gulags
Slave labour camps run by the USSR
Superpower
A term given to a country that has extreme global influence and control.
