Q

Name some characteristics of Group 1 Metals

A

They are very reactive. They are very shiny and silvery. They are quite soft and can easily be cut with a knife. Low density and low melting points

Q

Explain the pattern of reactivity in Group 1

A

As you go down Group 1, the atoms get bigger. The distance between the outer electron and the nucleus is greater. This means the electrostatic forces of attraction between the nucleus and the outer electron decreases. This makes it easier to lose an electron to acquire a full outer shell
