Outbreak of the bubonic plague
Buboes grew on skin
Patients usually died 3-5 days after catching it
Returned every 10-20 years, less severe each time

4 Causes of the black death

A

Religious - punishment from God because of sin
Astrology - unusual alignment of the planets in 1345 which should something bad happening
Miasma - impure air spreading disease
Jewish population - not the case in England (Jews had been expelled in 1200s)

Religious - praying, fasting, pilgrimages, whipping yourself publicly
Run away from the bad air in cities and towns
Doing joyful things - listening to music
Quarantine laws to stop people moving around, people still went to church
