Heart Valve Disorders: Causes

A

Rheumatic fever – Autoimmune reaction/disease
Large, hemorrhagic, fibrous lesions grow on inflamed edges

Congenital
Malformed valves from birth

Other underling cardiovascular complication/disease
E.g. Ischemia, endocarditis, damage to papillary muscle etc.

Aging
Valves can thicken, become calcified and stiff
