compound epithelium Flashcards
characteristics of transitional compound epithelium
multilayered, stretchable, there is no basement membrane, the deepest layer is of cuboidal cells, the middle is polygonal, and the upper layer is long rectangular cells
location of transitional epithelium
urothelium : inner lining of ureter and urinary bladder, pelvis- kidney, proximal urethra
stratified characteristics
multilayer, stretchable, its deepest layer is called stratum germination ( the deepest layer is either cuboidal or columnar)
two superficial layers of stratified epithelium
keratinized and non keratinized
characteristics of keratinised stratified epi
upper covering of skin, water can not seep through, it is the superficial layer, ie rough, dead, the deeper cell is polygonal
function of keratinised epi
protection
characteristics of the non-keratinised epi
present at the moist region, water may penetrate through here, water loss is not prevented
location of non-keratinised epi
oral cavity, anal cavity, pharynx, vagina, cornea etc
