intercellular junctions Flashcards
what are tight junctions also called as
zonular occludens
what region of tj in cells is connected to each other
the apical region of adjacent cells are tightly packed by protiens
what’s the function of tj
prevention of leakage
the function of gap junction
communication between the cells (exchange of ions, small or big molecules)
how are cells connected to e/o by gp
thro cytoplasm with e/o
what is the function of adhering junction
it cements the neighbouring junctions together
what is the microfilament of aj composed of
has mainly actin and also keratin like protiens
presence or absence of intercellular proteins in zonular adherans
its absent
what are desmosomes
they are similar to zonular adherans, they have plague-like structures on the side facing cytoplasm, they have intercellular proteins, and their microfilaments also called tonofibrils are made up of keratin protein
explain hemidesmosomes
they connect BM and cell to one another, microfilament and intercellular proteins are only present on one side, you can say they are half structure of desmosomes.
difference between desmosomes and hemidesmosomes
hemidesmosomes connect cell to BM and desmosomes connect cell to cell
