day 1 - lining of the uterus break down and bleeding starts known as ‘the period’
day 4- lining of the uterus builds up again. thickens into a spongy layer full of blood vessels ready for implantation
day 14 - egg is released from the ovaries so it’s most likely the woman may become pregnant
day 28 - The wall remains thick awaiting for the arrival of a fertilised egg. if this doesn’t happen the lining breaks down and the cycle starts all over again
