4 - enzymes Flashcards
what are enzymes
they are biological catalysts in the body that help speed up reactions
what is lock and key?
gcse stuff icl
basically the enzyme has an active site made only for the one specific substrate. this means that if the active site denatures in any way the enzyme will not work in the desired way
what is induced-fit?
induced fit is like lock and key, it’s just that the active site is more flexible in a sense and kinda squishes to the substate
competitive inhibition
competitive inhubititoon is just normal substrates competing for an active site.
non-competitive inhibitors
they don’t compete with other substrates and just bind to the allosteric site, which then changes the active site
Define cofactor and coenzyme
Cofactor: Inorganicsubstaces that fit to the active site of an enzyme toactivate the enzyme
Coenzyme:Large organic substances that take part in an enzyme controlled reaction
