ARC-PA

NY state educational requirements
-satisfactory evidence of completion of a program for the training of physician assistants that is approved by the New York State Education Department
licensure qualifying or accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA)
OR
-a program that is determined by the Department to be the substantial equivalent of a licensure qualifying or accredited program
NY state pa program requirements
-program must be accredited
-students must meet minimum of:
-at least 32 semester hours of classroom work
-40 weeks (1,600 clock hours) of supervised clinical training
limited permit
-allows an individual who has satisfied all requirements for licensure as a registered PA except the exam requirement to practice as a registered PA under appropriate supervision while meeting the requirement
-appropriate supervision is the direct supervision of a currently registered NY state licensed physician
-valid x 1 year, may apply for renewal for 1 additional year
supervision requirements
-these focus on the need for a written COLLABORATIVE AGREEMENT with a physician that can outline the procedures a PA is allowed to perform
-required and must be continuous, but doesnt necessarily require the physical presence of the physician where services are performed
-state policy specifies whether the supervisory relationship between the PA and physician is determine either:
-at the practice level (within the medical practice where the PA will be practicing)
OR
-determined by the state medical board or in state law
scope of practice determination NY state law
-PA may perform medical services and acts that are delegated by the supervising physician and are within the scope of practice of the physician

-requires NP, midwives, dentists, podiatrists, physicians, physician assistants and optometrists in NYS (prescribers) to issue prescriptions electronically directly to a pharm
