The seal of the United States Naval Academy is made up
of a hand grasping a trident above a shield bearing an ancient galley coming into action, bows on. Below the galley is an open book indicative of education. The shield is framed by the motto “Ex Scientia, Tridens”, meaning “From knowledge, sea power”.
