what is globalisation?
the increase in interconnectedness between countries, involving the sharing of ideas, people, goods, technology and culture, increasing social and environmental interactions
what is interdependence?
mutual reliance that countries have on each other which is increased by globalization.
what are the 4 different types of globalization?
- social
- economic
- cultural
- political
what does social globalization include?
movement of migrant workers, quality of education, healthcare and social media.
what does economic globalization include?
growth of MNCs, growth of TNCs, growth of internet and communication technology.
what does cultural globalization include?
spread of Western ideas and culture, e.g. fast food
what does political globalization include?
rise in trade blocs, rise in IGO’s (e.g. the IMF and World Bank)
how has globalisation occurred?
spread through social media, trade, internet, travel and tourism
how has globalisation affected internet language?
unfair representation of the proportion of languages spoken versus those online, due to most internet browsers being owned by US or UK TNCs like Google.
