Chapter 21: Considerations for organizational adoption Flashcards
For an organization adopting PRINCE2, what is the overriding objective?
The overriding objective for adopting PRINCE2 is to improve business performance.
Define Maturity.
Maturity is a measure of the reliability, efficiency and effectiveness of a process, function, organization etc.
The most mature processes and functions are formally aligned with business objectives and strategy, and are supported by a framework of continual improvement.
Define Maturity model.
A Maturity model is a method of assessing organizational capability in a given area of skill.
Summarize the P3M3 project maturity levels.
Awareness of processes: Limited processes and ad-hoc management.
Repeatable Process: Introduction of standardized practices.
Defined Process: Well-documented processes and roles.
Managed Process: Performance monitoring and improvement.
Optimized Process: Continuous improvement and innovation.
TRUE or FALSE:
It is of the upmost importance that a glossary is defined within an organization adopting a consistent Project Management method.
TRUE
To avoid misalignments and miscommunication.
TRUE or FALSE:
Any activity in a PRINCE2 process is undertaken by a role to create a management product.
TRUE
TRUE or FALSE
An organization may choose to limit the degree of tailoring the project management method they adopted.
TRUE
By defining the following:
* What rules or guidelines are applicable to the organization?
* What degree of freedom should each role holder have?
* Who “approves” tailoring?
* Who can advise people on tailoring?
On page 278 there is an example of a matrix that would help organizations create guidelines for project management based on the complexity of a project. When a “project” has the characteristics of “major business transformation” and “multiple projects”, this is not a project. What is it?
A programme.
On page 278 there is an example of a matrix that would help organizations create guidelines for project management based on the complexity of a project. When a “project” has the characteristics of “low risk, cost, importance, visibility” and “single discipline, single site”, this is not a project. What is it?
It’s not a project, it’s a task.
PRINCE2 managing product delivery process can be used in this case (with work packages, product descriptions, logs/registers and checkpoint reviews).
When embedding PRINCE2 in an organization, there are a number of things to consider when it comes to making people accept the change. Which ones?
- understand the current state, and identify the changes needed
- understand the resilience of those who will be impacted by the change
- develop the necessary capabilities to meet the organization’s needs (roles, processes, systems, culture and behaviours)
- engage those affected by change and win their support
Is it necessary for all the activities describe within the PRINCE2 processes to happen in order for the project to be following PRINCE2?
No
