Q

How do athletes get away with doping?

A

Sample Manipulation: Altering nature of sample by simple substitution & use of products to affect amount of drug present in urine.

Sample Adulturation: Introducing chemicals into urine sample to interfere with testing process. These chemicals also include some drugs that may interfere with testing technology to cause “false negative” report.

Masking: Rapidly removing drugs from body prior to test, or blocking removal of drug from body through kidney & urine. Intent is to use one drug or chemical to greatly reduce urine concentration of an illegal drug.

Q

How does NGB/WADA attempt to prevent athletes cheating the doping tests?

A

Amount of time limited between notification & administration of test - more difficult to employ aforementioned methods.
Strict control on access to liquids consumed at time of testing - ensures foreign products not being taken to compromise sample
Direct observation should be used when collecting samples - if not bluing agents in toilets & taping off faucets so water can’t be used to dilute sample are advised.
