Anato Block II: Arm Flashcards
What are the compartments of the arm?
The anterior compartment, which contains most of the flexor muscles of the elbow/forearm
The posterior compartment, which contains most of the extensor muscles of the elbow/ forearm
What are the muscles of the anterior compartment of the arm?
Flexors of the fore arm
1. Biceps brachii
2. Coracobrachialis
3. Brachialis
Which nerve innervates the muscles of the anterior compartment of the arm?
musculocutaneous nerve (ramification of axillar brachial plexus)
What are the muscles of the posterior compartment of the arm?
Extensors of the forearm
1. Triceps brachii
2. Aconeus
Which nerve innervates the muscles of the posterior compartment of the arm?
Radial nerve
What passes through the quadrangular space?
axillary nerve and posterior circumflex humeral artery passes through here to irrigate posterior part of arm
quadrangular space edges:
inferior: teres major
posterior: long head of tricep
anterior: lateral head of tricep
superior: subscapular
Proximal attachment of the biceps brachii [origin]
short head: tip of coracoid process of scapula
long head: supraglenoid tubercle of scapula
Distal attachment of biceps brachii [insertion]
Tuberosity of radius and fascia of forearm via bicipal aponeurosis
Innervation of biceps brachii
musculocutaneous neve (c5, C6, c7)
Action of biceps brachii
Supinates forearm and when it is supine flexes fore arm
short head resists dislocation of shoulder
Proximal attachment of the coracobrachialis [origin]
Tip of coracoid process of scapula
Distal attachment of the coracobrachialis [insertion]
Middle third of media surface of humerus
Innervation of coracobrachialis
musculocutaneous neve (c5, C6, c7)
Action of coracobrachialis
Helps flex and adduct arm
resists dislocation of shoulder
