What do velocity time graphs do?

Velocity is a vector has directtion and speed

A

Show how velocity of a moving object varies with time

The velocity (speed) will go on the y axis and the time on the x axis.

Similar to distance time graphs but instead of distance there is velocity. Velocity time graphs can be used to calcultae distance.

What information does a velocity time graph show?

A

.If an object is moving at constand accelration/ decelration
.Magnitude of accerlration/ decelration
.Straight line shows constant velocity
.Slope shows magnitude
.Steep slope = larger accelration/ decelration (if the speed changed quickly)
.Gentle slope = smaller accelration/ decelration (if speed changes gradually)
. Horrizontal lines means accelration/ decelration
.

Simlar rules to distance time graps just with speed and accerlration

Remeber a straight line is constant velocity not accelration because accelration is a change in velocity so can not be accelration if it is constant.

Q

Similar to speed calculation on a distance time graph

What can accelration be calculate by?

Remeber the equation for accelration but add it to a graph

A

Accerlration = gradient = rise/ run

Depending on the question the accerlation equation may also be needed

If the question says to fine one point just do rise/ run but if the question is between two points keep in mind accelration= change in velocity (new velocity - inital velocity)/ time (an additional part because it is a graph subtract the two time points)

Equation for distance= speed x time

What is the calculation for distance in a velcoity time graph?

Q

Can their be more than one shape found under a velocity time graph when calculating distance?

A

Yes

Somtimes there can be a trinagle and a sqaure. Both are claucltaed sepreatly then added togther at the end. Area of a traingle is calculated as 1/2 x horrizontal axis x vertical axis

Q

Can accelration be constant/ uniform?

A

Yes

Just means that accelration is changing at a constant rate

Not a dramtic change just an equal change each time. Shown as a straight horrizontal line
