DVT =
Deep vein thrombosis
what are some preventative measures of DVT
Drink enough water;
* Have an aspirin;
* Move and do legs exercise.
what are some risk factors of DVT?
Age (over 40);
* Prolonged bed rest;
* Estrogen levels (contraceptive pills);
* Obesity;
* Pregnancy;
* Recent surgery (doctors give
medication to prevent blood loss);
* Varicose veins;
* Women who are smoking and taking
contraceptive pills.
if someone goes into shock should you let them eat or drink ?
Even though the
casualty feels thirsty
DO NOT allow them
to eat or drink,
what are some signs of shock?
Pale, cool, sweaty skin,
feeling faint, shivering,
* Rapid, shallow
breathing,
* Grey –blue skin: lips,
fingernail beds,
* Weakness , dizziness,
nausea, possible
vomiting,
* Thirst.
if someone has hypoglycaemia should you give them insulin ?

Vomiting or diarrhoea, what should you do if someone is suffering from this ?
Give the casualty plenty of bland fluids, slowly and often
Suitable are „isotonic“ glucose drinks or add salt (1 teaspoon/liter)
and sugar (4 or 5 teaspoons/liter) to either water or other similarly
prepared drink and offer to the passenger
When the appetite returns, give only bland, starchy food for 24
hours
what should you not do if someone is suffering from hypothermia
don’t give them alcoholic
drinks;
➢ don’t massage the limbs;
➢ don’t move them roughly or
suddenly (risk of shock);
➢ don’t use radiant heat (fire,
electric heaters).
what should you do if someone is suffering from hypothermia
➢ cover them with blankets,
clothes, sheets;
➢ give them warm drinks and
energy-rich foods (soups, hot
chocolate, chocolate);
➢ replace wet clothes with dry
ones;
➢ keep the person in horizontal
position to reduce cardiac
workload.
what to do if someone has a stroke ?
Comfortable position
but not with legs raised
➢ GIVE OXYGEN
➢ Do not give anything to
eat or drink
what are some foods you should avoid if you have a headache
avoid red wine,
chocolate, cheese, they
contain certain amines
