Q

Why is momentum used

A

In space, the mass of rockets decreases as the fuel decreases to 0.

Therefore we cant use F = ma.

So we use linear momentum to analyse motion of objects eg. rockets

Q

What does conservation of momentum mean

A

When two or more objects collide or interact with each other, objects transfer both momentum and kinetic energy between themselves, but total momentum does not change, provided that no external forces act on the interacting objects.

Q

What is principle of conservation of momentum

A

For a system of interacting objects, the total momentum in a specified direction remains constant, as long as no external forces act on the system.
