Installing a Physical Network Chapter 5 Flashcards
What are Patch Cables used far?
Connect patch pannel to switch and PC to outlet boxes
What is Port Aggregation?
bonding or link agregation
used to allow multiple nics in one computer for better network bandwidth
What is a time domain refecltometer (TDR)?
(TDR) Generic term that can determine locations of cable breaks
What is difference between solid and stranded core UTP?
Solid: uses single solid wire, Better conductor, stiff will break if handled poorly
Stranded: Each is bundle of wire strands; Flip pros and cons of solid
How wide are network equipment racks?
19 inches wide
What is a patch panel?
Box with row of female ports in front and permanent connections in back for horizontal cables. Faciitate cable organization and protect horizontal cableing.
What is horizontal cabling?
Network cables that connect equipment room to work areas. Tend to consist of SOLID Core UTP and exist in walls/ceilings/floors
What are patch Cables?
Short, 2-5 ft UTP cables that connect patch panels to switches
How does an open or short issue affect copper cables?
Open is when any of the wires are broken or unconnected in the crimp
Short is two bare wires touching
Both are issues with connectivity
What does a Wire Map Test do?
Ensures copper cables connect to right spot and picks up shorts, crossed wires
What is a Multimeter?
Tests AC and DC voltage, current, continuity and resistance
What is cross talk?
Electrical Signal Interference ESI between two cables that are in close proximity to each other.
What is attenuation?
Degradation of signal over distance for a networking cable
How is signal loss measured?
decibels (dB)
What is dispersion?
Diffusion over distance of light propagating down fiber cable causing signal degradation.
