What is APS?
An acquired autoimmune disorder that manifests are recurrent venous or arterial thrombosis
When is definite APS present?
If one clinical and lab criteria are met. Must be atleast one of both
What is the most prominent complaint of APS?
Migraine
What are the most common skin manifestations?
Ulcers and a cyanotic reddish pattern on the skin symbolizing veins
What’s the cause of thrombosis in APS?
aPL
What is CAPS?
Catastrophic APS
What do we prescribe to treat APS?
Warfarin
How do we treat pregnant women with APS?
Heparin
How do we treat CAPS?
Corticosteroids
Should the patient have Thromocytopenia above 50,000/mm3, what do we give?
Prednisone and IVIG (IV immunoglobulin)
