Why did you decide to become an au pair?
E: because I love kids and I want to improve my English
What characteristics or skills do you feel are most important to have in oder to be a successful aí pair?
R: be responsible, open minded, polite, happy, patient and adaptable.
What types of rules do you think you will have living with your host family
R: cleaning up after myself, after the kids, do laundry and dishes washer
How do you evision the typical American family
R: an American family works hard, are responsible and open minded because they bring au pair of another country
Describe your ideal host family. How do you see yourself fitting into their lifestyle?
R: I’m looking for a family that’s funny, open minded, flexible, a family that’s like me and follow the rules
Please describe what you imagine you typical au pair schedule will be like
R: in the morning wake up them, give them breakfast, drive them to school, in the afternoon pick them up at school, give them snack and play with them or to do homework
If you were at the park with your host children and he/ she fell off the swing and seriously hurt themselves, what you will do?
R: I will call for 911 and calm down he or she, and while we are going to the hospital, I will call for the parents and explaining what happened
What would you do if you were placed with a host family and you did not agree with their discipline style?
E: I would do nothing, I will respect them
How would you handle a disagreement with your host family?
R: I would talk to them and try to resolve
If two young host children were fighting over a toy, how would you handle the situation?
R: I was going to ask who played last, and explain that, who can’t play, can play and they need to learn play with another toy
What would you do if you were driving a car and one of your host children took off their seatbelt?
R: I will stop the car in a safe place and pt the seatbelt again and explain that’s a dangerous situation
Besides homesickness, what other challenge do you think you will have as as an au pair and how you overcome them?
R: a new culture because it’s different, só in the beginning will be a little strange or different
What do you do to gain a child’s trust?
R: being there for them emotionally and listening when they are upset will show them that I care. Children want to be heard and listened to when they are happy, sad, scared or felling any other emotion that let’s then know they can trust me
What do you think is important to do have a healthy relationship with your host parents? And host children?
R: when I think about this, only words come to mind, which is trust, I want to create relationship of trust with the parents and I will create this relationship of trust by doing the right thing, establishing a routine and meeting deadline. And about kids, in addition to trust it’s about fulfilling the little one’s agreement, I will work hard on understanding and creating an emotional bond. And I also think that the word trust is linked to honestly, so if I make something wrong, not omitting it’s a great start só that they and I can think of a solution together
Why do you think being an au pair is good now?
Because it’s the cheapest way to live aboard for a year or two, I want to improve my English, make new friends and became mor mature and independent
