PRELIM 02 - Tessellation, Symmetry, Fractal Flashcards
Is when we cover a surface with a pattern of flat shapes so that there are no overlaps or gaps
Tessellation/Tiling
Is a pattern made by repeating a regular polygon
Regular tessellation
Is a corner point
Vertex
Is made of two or more regular polygons
Semi-regular tessellation
One half is the reflection of the other half
Reflection symmetry/Line symmetry/Mirror symmetry
The image is rotated so that it appears 2 or more times
Rotational symmetry
The number of times an object appears
Order
Is when every part has a matching part, which has the same distance from the central point but in the opposite direction
Point symmetry
Has a pattern that we can see again after zooming in
Fractals
Example of a fractal
Sierpinski triangle
