Crush injury
Indication is a bruise
Internal organs crushed
Crushed hollow organs can cause inflammation and tissue damage
Possible underlying fracture
Swelling or deformity at bruise
Object impaled in cheek
Pull it out if there is perforation and you can see both ends
Eye wounds
No impaled object: loose dressings
Impaled: stabilize and rigid protection (cup)
Do not secure bandage on top of cup
Dress both eyes, tend to move together
Avulsions treating
Large, bulky pressure dressing
Save abused part wrap in sterile dressing moistened with sterile saline and keep cool
Partial thickness burns
Blisters
Mottle appearance
Dermis is damaged
Rule of nines
Each area contributes 9%
Head and neck
Each upper extremity
Chest
Abdomen
Upper back
Lower back
Buttocks
Front of each lower extremity
Back of each lower extremity
Burn center
Second degree more than 10%
Burns in face, genitalia, perineum, extremities and joints
Third degree
Electrical burns
Inhalation burns
Other medical problems or trauma
Hydrofluoric acid and alkali
Irrigate for as long as you can or until MD tells to stop
Carbolic acid (phenol)
Wash with alcohol first followed by water
Inhaled vapors
Provide oxygen and transport
Chemical burns to eyes
Wash and cover with moistened pads
