What is a pressure group?
Organisations which try to get the government to try and adopt their ideas or not pursue a specific policy
What is a Think Tank?
An organisation whose role is to undertake research into various aspects of public policy. Staffed by experts, often sets policy agendas.
What does a sectional - also known as an interest group - do?
Promotes the interests of an occupation or another group in society - membership usually restricted to people who meet specific requirements
What is a cause group?
An organisation focused on a particular goal or raising awareness of an issue
What is a social movement?
An organisation with a looser structure than a cause group. Usually politically radical and seeks to achieve a single goal
What is an insider group?
A pressure group that is consulted by the government. Tactics are restrained and avoid disruption.
What is an outsider group?
A pressure group that is not often consulted by the government. They rely on public opinion.
What does a lobbyist do?
They are paid by their clients to try and influence the government in the interests of their clients
