informed consent
particpants should know what hey are getting into before they get into it
involves making particpants aware of the aims of the research the procedures and their rights
includes the rights to withdraw at any time
also tell them what their data willl be used for
informed consent can make the study meaningless as particpants behaviour may not be natural
dealing with informed consent
particpants should be issued with a consent letter or from detailing all relevant information that might affect their decision to participate
for particpants that are under 16 a signature of parental consent is required
deception
deliberately misleading or withholding info from particpants at any stage within the investigation
partisans who have not recidved adequate information when they agrreed to take part in the study cannot to have said to be given informed consent
there are occasions when deception can be justified if it does not cause the particpants undue distress
protection from harm
particpants should not be placed at any more risk than they would in their daily lives
should be protected form any physical and psychological harm
includes feeling embarrassed or being put under a lot of stress or pressure
particpants must be reminded about their right to withdraw from the investigation at any point
dealing with deception and protection from harm
should be given a full debrief
should be made aware of the true aims of the study and any details that were not given to them
should also be told what their data will be used for and must be given the right to withdraw during the study and also the right to withhold data
may have natural concerns about their performance so they must be reassured that their behaviour was typical and normal
in extreme cases if a partipcnat feels embarrassed or stressed dithery may require counselling

usually refer to particpants by using numbers or letters to maintain anonymity
during briefing and debriefing particpants are reminded that their data will be protected throughout the process and told that data will not be shared with other researchers
