Q
Local anesthetic
- Also an anti-arrhythmic
- IV use for local analgesia
- Causes additional CNS depression and increased GI motility in horses
- Interferes with glutamate action at NMDA receptors
- Interferes with sodium potassium channels in spinal chord
- Cats don’t metabolize as well as dogs–> greater cardiovascular effects
A
Lidocain
2
Q
Local anesthetic
- Slower onset, but long duration of action
- Selectivity for sensory nerves
- If over dose high enough to get cardiovascular effects, hard to save patients
A
Bupivicain
3
Q
Local anesthetic
- Long acting
- Less toxicity than Bupivicain
A
Ropivacain
