2b Flashcards
linear growth
as time goes by growth occurs at a steady rate
when graphed it is a straight line
population growth
an increase in the size of a population over time
exponential growth
initial and graces are slow but as the population gets larger it grows faster
populations show a J shaped curve
carrying capacity
The number of organisms and environment can support
logistic growth
and time the population growth will level off making an S shaped curve
density dependent factors
have an increased effect as population increases
more organisms more risk
examples are disease competition parasites and predation
density independent factors
affect all population regardless of the density
more organisms same risk
examples are temperature storms natural disasters drought pollution and habitat destruction
most are abiotic factors
