Mycobacterium
- Lipid-producing bacteria
- Cells have Mycolic Acid layer in cell wall
What stains are used in Acid-Fast Staining?
- Carbolfuchsin Stain–Keep Moist!
- Decolorizer
- Counterstain–Methylene Blue
What kind of cell needs Capsule Staining?
Cells with a capsule–Glycocalyx
Will show white circle around cell body
What is the purpose of glygocalyx?
- Capsule = Protection, inhibits phagocytosis
