National Contingency Plan (National Oil and Haz Substances Contingency Plan)
NRS DEF
Provides assistance to state and local responders when oil/ chem releases exceed their capabilities (release amount or hazards). Activated when an agency contacts the NRC
Written Emergency Notification
ASAPracticable, after releae & activation of NRC, sent to local/state resp coordinator
EAP DEF
Req by employers with more than 10 employees (who must remain among other things) (general and can cover multiple emergency types)
ERP DEF
States specific response elements for a particular emergency type. How to integrate with outsid eagencies. Can be part of contingency plan

Mechanical containment/recovery, Chem & Bio methods, Physical methods
Mechanical containment/recovery - Oil spill
Booms, barriers, skimmers, sorbent materials (Capture & store oil for proper disposal)
Chem & Bio methods - Oil Spill
Chem (Gelling agents - change to solid state for removal. Dispersing agents - break up spill into smaller droplets). Bio - microbes to increase breakdown rate)
Physical Methods - Oil spills
Wiping, pressure washing, raking (remove the bulk of material)

over 42,000 gals (over water), 1M gal (land based capacity)

Criteria to Self certify - SPCC
If less than 10,000 Gal and no spill over 1,000 Gal in the past 3 years. If not, needs an engineer.
