What did they wear?
- Most religious people wore long woolen habits.
- Fur was used to line garments of the wealthy.
- Jewellery was used as security against loans.
- In the middle of the 14th century, there were laws stating who could wear what jewellery.
Did they go to school?
- People in the Middle Ages rarely went to school and only the richest women had good education.
- Children learned their jobs from their parents. By the year 1330, 5% of the population could read and write.
What was life like in the city?
- Peasants started their work at dawn and finished at dusk.
- On Holy days, the peasants had a day off and played games such as shin kicking and wrestling.
- The most popular job was being a craftsmen.
Where were the Saxons originally from?
The Saxons were originally from Northern Germany, Europe.
What did they believe encouraged their gods to crush
their enemies?
Sacrificing goats.
What empire was Britain a part of before the Saxon invasion?
The Roman Empire.
Who was crowned king after Edward The Confessor’s death?
Harold Godwinson was crowned king after the death.
Who wins the Battle of Stamford Bridge?
Harold Godwinson won the Battle of Stamford Bridge after defeating Harald Hardrada.
Who won the Battle of Hastings?
Harold Godwinson was defeated at the Battle of Hastings by William, Duke of Normandy.
What is a Witan?
A Witan decides who becomes king as well as giving them ideas and support.
