What are Hazardous materials?

A

Substances or materials in original form or as waste that is capable of posing an unreasonable risk to health, safety, property and environment. Such substances include gases, chemicals, radioactive materials, etc., that have the potential for fire, explosion, asphyxiation or the release of radioactivity.

Who is the Lead agency when involving WMD/CBRNE incidents?

A

The FBI is designated as the lead agency for all WMD/CBRNE incidents (Presidential Decision Directive 39 - PDD39). LVMPD personnel will assist in securing the scene and preserving evidence and will not enter a contaminated area unless properly equipped.
