5.3 Flashcards
Concave lens?
A lens that is thinner and flatter in the middle then around the edges;refracts light rays so they spread out
Convex lens?
A lens that is thicker in the middle then around the edges;focuses light rays at a focal point
What does the image look like when the object is more than two focal length away from a convex lens?
Smaller and inverted
What does the image look like when it is between one and two focal length away from a convex lens?
Larger and inverted
What does the Image look like when the object is at the focal point in a convex lens?
No image
What does the image look like when object is less than one focal length away in a convex lens?
Larger and upright
Focal length?
The distance from the center of a lens or mirror to the focal point
Lens?
A curved piece of transparent material that refracts light in such a way as to converge or diverge parallel light rays; in the eye, the flexible convex structure behind the pupil and Iris
What does the image look like at any location in a concave lens?
Smaller and upright
When light pass from air into a denser material does a bend towards the normal or away from the normal?
Towards the normal
When light passes out of the dense material back into air does it bend towards the normal or away from the normal?
Away from the normal
What happens to parallel light rays strike a concave lens??
The light rays diverge
What happens to parralel light rays that strike a convex lens?
They converge
What determines the type of image that is formed by a convex lens?
How far the objects away from The lens
What are two uses for concave lenses?
Concave lenses are used in some eyeglasses and some telescopes, and are often used in combination with other lenses
