Both authors question the various sources of identity. Through the insight each author grants, we see the struggles and triumphs of individuals searching for their own identities. Whilst Funder is far more optimistic as to how one may retain a sense of, Orwell’s depiction of self-discovery is far more pessimistic and more restricted.
