detections and alarm systems Flashcards

1
Q

3 methods of signal transmission

A

Wired- most common in smaller, less complex systems (similar to the operation of a light switch, on activates, off is normal)
Wireless- utilizes radio frequencies to send and receive signals.
Fiber optic- initially most expensive, but has larger bandwidth, low signal loss rate, smaller size and lighter weight. (method of choice when networking between multiple protected premise FACUs or proprietary FACUs to the main unit or supervising stations)

Q

Methods of alarm identification

A

Coded- location of activated device is transmitted by a series of uniform audible strokes and/or visual flashes, repeated a minimum of 3 times.
Annunciators- (lamp-type- illuminates device type, floor, and zone (LEDs) or (graphic type- device type, floor, and zone displayed on a typical floor plan with backlights or surface mounted lamps (LEDs))
Alphanumeric LCD- programmable alarm systems; device type floor and location displayed in text; able to identify the specific location of the alarm without having to search entire floor or zone
