6 Item Checklist for RC
1) General Subject
2) Primary Structure - POV?
3) Role of Author - Present/Absent? Positive/Negative/Neutral?
4) Tag the passage
5) Mark up the passage
6) Isolate Secondary structures - Cause & Effect, Concrete Example, Classification, Question and Answer
4 Steps to Focus on for RC
1) Read slowly to get a solid understanding of Primary structure in 1 read
2) Understand what the questions are asking,
3) Anticipate
4) Use good process of elimination (Would rather be on the weaker end so maybe use soft MBT rules)
Premise
Is not supported but does the supporting
Conclusion
Is supported but does not do any supporting
Subsidiary Conclusion
Is supported but also does support something else
Main Point Flow
1) ID Prompt - “Main Conclusion” “Central Thesis”
2) Read stimulus and ID conclusion
3) Pick that
90% of the time either find disagreement patters and if not it is usually the first sentence
Role of the Argument Flow
1) ID Prompt - “Role” + quote stimulus
2) Read stimulus and ID Conclusion + Premises
3) How Many POV?
If 1 POV, then it will either be a premise, conclusion, or sub conclusion and pretty easy
If 2 POV, then take it in parts and find parts the author disagrees with. Use background info
Describe Flow
