what kind of competition it was
• an inter-department annual indoor sports competition
I have attended many competitions in different phases of my life and have won some prizes from those competitions as well. One such contest that I would like to talk about was an inter-department annual indoor sports competition at my college
When the competition took place

I was a student of the college and around 18 years old. One day I noticed an advertisement in one of our class board that an inter-college competition would be held on next week. There will be an entry fee and the prizes would be given to the first three participants. I had a passion for chess and that’s why I thought to participate it.

The competition was declared and I enlisted myself for chess, card games and table tennis. The completion was held for two days (on the weekends). I was unable to shine in table tennis and card because I do not have much idea about them. But I tried my best to survive in the games and finally, I was defeated. When the chess round began, I performed very well in the preliminary stages. Gradually, I moved to the next rounds and appeared in the final. The chess final competition was an exciting event for everyone. In fact, all the students turned into two sides. One part of them was supporting me while the other side was supporting my opponent. So, there was a sense of rivalry between the groups. But later, when I won the match, everyone appreciated me for my success. Actually, they were amazed at my chess skills.

The prizes of the competition were fabulous. Each of the competitions had attractive prizes. I won the first prize for chess and a certificate of appreciation. The prize that I received was a LED television set of a reputed brand. The certificate was issued by the college and signed by the college president wishing my success ahead. I was highly glad about the prize and certificate. In fact, I have received the prize after a long time. Besides, the prizes that I received before were small and medals made of gold and silver. Those are still in my collection. But the LED television was the greatest of them. I am happy with the prize.

I liked playing chess because I enjoyed the challenge of thinking ahead and trying to outwit my opponent. I was probably seven or eight years old when I started playing, and it seemed like a very mysterious and intellectual game at that time. I took part in the competition for some reasons. The prime motivation behind participating was to check my skills on indoor games especially in chess because I had not been in practice for a long time. So, when the invitation for participating at inter-college competition arrived, I did not miss the chance.
