Function of the urinary system

A
  • Removes metabolic waste

16
Q

Whats the narrowest segment of the male urethra

A

17
Q

Whats the longest segment of the male urethra

A

Penile

18
Q

What is the innervation of the urinary bladder

A

Hypogatsirc nerve T12-L2

19
Q

What is the function of the hypogastric nerve in the bladder

A

It causes relaxation of the detrusor muscle, promoting urine retention. Constricts internal urethral sphincter during ejaculation

20
Q

What is the function of the parasympathetic pelvic nerve (S2-S4)

A

Increased signals from this nerve causes contraction of the detrusor muscle, stimulating micturition.

21
Q

What is the function of the somatic nerves on the bladder (pudendal nerve) (S2-S4)

A

It innervates the external urethral sphincter, providing voluntary control over micturition.

22
Q

Describe the bladder stretch reflex

A
  1. Bladder fills with urine
  2. Bladder walls stretch
  3. Sensory nerves detect stretch and transmit this information to the spinal cord
  4. Interneurons within the spinal cord relay the signal to the parasympathetic efferents (pelvic nerve)
  5. The pelvic nerve acts to contract the detrusor muscle and stimulate micturition
23
Q

What makes up the nephron

A

Renal corpuscle and Renal tubules

24
Q

What makes up the renal corpuscle

A

Glomerulus and Bowman’s capsule

25
Q

What makes up the uniferous tubule

A

Nephron and collecting duct

26
Q

Name common developmental anomalies of the kidney

A
Horseshoe kidney
Aberrant renal arteries
Pelvic kidney
Unilateral double kidneys
Double ureter
