6
Q

where do the ASIS and Pubic Tubercle align in the anatomic position

A

one the Coronal Plane

  • the pelvis has an anterior tilt that allows them to align and support the weight of the abdominal and oelvic organs

Q

dx betw/ the male and female pelvis

**most acc bone for sex determination

A

MALE

  • bones are thicker and heavier, for support of the male’s heavier physical build and stronger muscles.
  • The greater sciatic notch of the male hip bone is narrower and deeper than the broader notch of females
  • subpibic angle is 70 degrees

FEMALE: adapted for childbirth,

  • wider than the male pelvis,
    • wider distance between the 2 ASIS
  • The ischial tuberositiess are farther apart,
    • increases the size of the pelvic outlet.
  • this increased pelvic width, causes subpubic angle is larger in females greater than 80 degrees.
  • The female sacrum is wider, shorter, and less curved,
  • the sacral promontory projects less into the pelvic cavity, thus giving the female pelvic inlet a more rounded or oval shape
  • The lesser pelvic cavity of females is also wider and more shallow than the narrower, deeper,
18
Q

what does the pelvic floor consist of

A
  1. pelvic diaphragm
  2. perinial pouch- superficial & deep
  3. perineum
19
Q

what is the pelvic diaphragm and what does it do

A

muscular partition formed by

the levatores ani anteriorly and coccygei posteriorly

20
Q

FUNCTIONS of pelvic diaphragm

(4)

A
  1. seperates the pelvic floor drom the perineum
  2. provides support for pelvic and abdominal contents
  3. resist increased pressure in the abdomen
  4. control the passage of contents out of the pelvis
