Deceiving -he is not honest at all but says this to deceive everybody and make them think he is an honest man.
“Reputation, reputation, reputation! O, I have lost my reputation!”
This view of reputation can be extended to many other characters in the play. Othello, for example, later fears his alleged cuckolding will damage his reputation, and so seeks to remedy this in the final act.
“O God, that men should put an enemy in their mouths to steal away their brains!”
