Air pressure+ Buoyancy Flashcards
What is pressure?
A measurment of the amount of force that is acting over an area
Picture a ballon that hasn’t been tied up and air can escape in and out. Is the volume greater, equal, or less than inside the ballon and outside the ballon
Equal volume inside the ballon and outside the ballon
Picture a ballon that is tied up and air cannot escape or can come inside. Inside a ballon is there more air (more pressure [greater]) or less air (less pressre)
More air (more pressure [greater]) inside the ballon
Picture a ballon that is tied up and air cannot escape or can come inside. Outside a ballon is there more air (more pressure [greater]) or less air (less pressre)
Less air (less pressure) outside the ballon
What is fluid?
A substance that can flow (such as liquid or gas)
What is buoyant force
Fluid dicplaced by object
(When an object is placed in fluid. The fluid exerts upward force.)
Why does some items FLOAT, but not others?
Because Low density, less than 1, and gravity loses.
Does bouyant force wins or loses when the items FLOAT!
losses
Why does some items SINK, but not others?
Because High density and gravity wins
Does bouyant force wins or loses when the items SINK!
wins
Imagine a cork that is put in a huge glass of water, does it float or sink or both? And is it postivly bouyant, negitvly buoyant, or neutrally boyant (neutral is when an item doesn’t fully sink or float it stays in the middle)
Floats
Positvly bouyant
Imagine wood that is put in a huge glass of water, does it float or sink or both? And is it postivly bouyant, negitvly buoyant, or neutrally boyant (neutral is when an item doesn’t fully sink or float it stays in the middle)
Floats
Positvly bouyant
Imagine Iron that is put in a huge glass of water, does it float or sink or both? And is it postivly bouyant, negitvly buoyant, or neutrally boyant (neutral is when an item doesn’t fully sink or float it stays in the middle)
Sinks
Negtively bouyant
Imagine a watermelon that is put in a huge glass of water, does it float or sink or both? And is it postivly bouyant, negitvly buoyant, or neutrally boyant (neutral is when an item doesn’t fully sink or float it stays in the middle)
Both (stays in middle)
Neutrally buoyant
