Q

What does limb hypoperfusion leads to?

Q

What are the clinical features of acute limb ischemia?

A

Clinical features: “ 6 Ps”

  • Pain: Restpainthat worsens on passive movement of the limb and is most severe in thedistalaspects of theischemiclimb.
  • Pallor: Skin over theischemiclimb initially appears pale and then becomes mottled andpurple-blue.
  • Paralysis: Initial muscle weakness progresses to profound irreversibleparalysis.
  • Pulselessness: Absent peripheral pulsesdistalto the site of occlusion.
  • Paresthesia: Initialparesthesia(e.g., decreased fine touch sensation) progresses to anesthesia.
  • Poikolothermia: Theischemiclimb is typically cold to touch but may be warm in hot environments (i.e., it takes on the ambient temperature).

Q

What is used to categorize the limb?

A

Clinical findings in combination with Doppler studies are then used to categorize the limb as viable, threatened, or nonviable.
