Alphapbets Of Lines Flashcards
A medium of short dashes lines approx. 1/8 “ in lenght ans spaced 1/32” between lines ans are used to represent hidden or unseen edges of objects.
Invisible line, hidden lines, broken lines, dotted lines
The basis of all drawings, it is a must to know that every line has a definite meaning, characteristics, use and make up or construction.
Alphabets of lines
A thick full line which is used to represent all visible edges of objects
Visible lines, object lines, outline line
5 reminders abt hidden lines
- hidden lines should join a visible line, except when it causes a visible line to extend too far. Leave a gap whenever a hidden line dash forms a continuation of visible line.
- hidden lines should intersect to from “L” or “T”
- hidden lines should jump a visible line
- parallel hidden lines should drawn so that they are not “staggered” in a manner to bricklaying.
- when 2 or more hidden lines meet a point, the dashes should join.
A thin fine, dark, and solid line with endpoints on both ends terminating in an extension or projection with a figure which indicates to direction and extent of the lenght or distance being presented.
Dimension lines
4 types of dimension lines
- simple arrow
- solid arrow
- circle
- slashed
A thin line with long and short dashes drawn alternately which is used to indicate axis of symmetrical objects or features. It should start and end with long dashes.
Center line
A thick line which consist of alternate long and short dashes, used to represent or show the path of the plane which cuts the object that makes a section. It si clearly identified with reference letters along with arrowheads to show direction in which the view is taken.
Cutting line
A thin straight line leading from the dimension value pr an explanatory note on the feature of the drawing to which the note applies. The inclined portion is usually 45• or 60•
Leader line ( for call outs/ specifications)
A thin irregular curved line with arrowheads similar to a leader line. Its function is to give an explanatory note
Reference line
A visible broken line drawn freehand. It is used to show that the object has been cut.
Short break line
A thin line drawn 45• with about 1/16” between the lines which is used to indicate that the object has been cut through where some section of the view has been removed,
Section cross hatching line
A fine line used as guides for plotting of lines/ objects. Construction / guide lines are normally drawn in pencil
