- The true heir’s (Duncan’s son, Malcom) birthright was stolen by Macbeth

Lady Macbeth knows that Macbeth is capable of ambitious dreams, but she thinks that he is unwilling to display the ruthless behaviour necessary to achieve those dreams.

“To be thus is nothing, but to be safely thus”
- He speaks this line after becoming king, but continues to feel restless and insecure. He’s afraid he might lose his position and finds it meaningless as he has no heir.
- Reveals how him giving in to his ambition and murdering Duncan has not brought hi, peace, but rather has left him more paranoid and anxious
