A

The Louisiana purchase acquired vast areas of land that was perfect for cotton growing.

By 1819 the land west of the Mississippi river became 3 new states, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi.

This land along with Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina became known as the cotton kingdom.
