The American war of independence lasted from 1775 to 1883. I think the main cause was the Boston tea party. I’m Boston when a group of colonists dressed up as native Americans and tipped a cargo of 10,000 worth of taxed tea into the sea in protest. As a consequence parliament put Massachusetts under military rule and passed the coercive acts which included closing down the port of Boston until all of the colonists paid for all the tea that they threw into the harbour

In 1777 there was an important turning point in the war American General Hortatio Gates forced a large Britsh army to surrender at the battle of Saratoga This
victory encouraged france and later Spain and Holland to join
war on the American side, these allies provided money men and ships to America. The war continued from 1778
to 1781 with each Side winning , and losing some battles. In 1781the war suddenly ended. Cornwallis, the British commander set
up camp on the Yorkrown peninsula, he was surrounded by Wasningtons forces by
Land and a french fleet at sea.He was forced to surrender and that was the end
