Define “Actus Reus”:
A
Actus Reus is the physical act or effort required to carry out the crime or offence.

Define “Mens Rea”:
A
Mens Rea is the intent of the offender. It refers to the person’s guilty knowledge or what was in their mind when they did the Actus Reus.

What is a statute?
A
A statute is an Act of Parliament.

What does the term ‘repeal’ mean in respect of a statute?
A
When Parliament considers that a section in an act, or a whole statute, no longer applies, it is removed.

What is Case Law?
A
When there are legal arguments over sections, words or phrases in court, the judge has to decide on the correct meaning, which is then binding on lower courts.

A
All the separate parts of the offence which must be proved.
