Q

What is the anatomy and Function of the Nuclear Membrane?

A

It surrounds the Nucleus and is a double membrane fluid layers fuse at different points. Nuclear membrane selectively permeable and it encloses a jelly like fluid called the Nucleoplasm.
The Nucleoli and Chromatin are suspended in the Nucleoplasm.

Q

What is the anatomy and Function of the Nucleoli?

A

This is the site where Ribosomes are assembled.

They are small round bodies.

What is the anatomy and Function of the Plasma Membrane?

A

This is a fragile, Transparent barrier that contains cell contents, separates them from the surrounding environment.

Q

What is the anatomy and Function of the Microvilli?

A

These are used for increasing the cells surface area and absorption rate.
They look like little finger projections.

Q

What is the anatomy and Function of the Tight Junctions?

A

This is when adjacent plasma membrane fuse together.

These are Impermeable junctions that bind cells together. They are leak proof sheets preventing substances from passing through extracellular space between cells.

Q

What is the anatomy and Function of the Desmosomes?

A

These are anchoring junctions that prevent cells from being pulled apart.
They are button-like, the thickenings of adjacent plasma membranes connected by fine protein filaments.

Q

What is the anatomy and Function of the Cytoplasm?

A

It is the cellular material outside the nucleus but inside of the plasma membrane. This is the cite where most of the cellular activities occur.

It has 3 major elements that include the Cytosol, Organelles and the Inclusions.

Q

What is the anatomy and Function of the Cytosol?

A

It is a semi transparent fluid that suspends other elements (mainly H2O) such as nutrients and other solutes dissolved in the cytosol.

Q

What is the anatomy and Function of the Organelles?

A

They are the machinery system of the cell. They all carrie out specific Functions for the cell as a whole.

Q

What is the anatomy and Function of the Inclusions?

A

These are chemical substances that may not be present and most are stored nutrients or cell products.

This includes Fat Droplets, Glycogen granules, melanin and mucus. ER

Q

What is the anatomy and Function of the Ribosomes?

A

These organelles are the site of protein synthesis. Some float free in the cytoplasm and some attach to membranes.

Q

What is the anatomy and Function of the Endoplasmic Reticulum?

A

There 2 types of ER, Rough and smooth.
This is a network of fluid-filled tubules that coil and twist through the cytoplasm.
including calcium storage, protein synthesis and lipid metabolism.

16
Q

What is the anatomy and Function of the Rough ER?

A

Studded with Ribosomes.
It is the cells membrane factory.
It is abondent in cells that export Protein.

17
Q

What is the anatomy and Function of the Smooth ER?

A

Has NO Role in protein synthesis.

Its function is cholesterol synthesis/breakdown and metabolizes fats also detoxifies.

18
Q

What is the anatomy and Function of the Golgi Apparatus?

A

It is a stack of flattened sacs associated with tiny versicles. It is there to modify packages and proteins.

19
Q

What is the anatomy and Function of the Lysosome?

A

It breaks down worn out bodies and foreign substances that enter the cell membrane bags containing powerful digestive enzymes.
A Lysosome rupture results in the self digestion of the cell.

20
Q

What is the anatomy and Function of the Peroxisomes?

A

It is a membranous sac containing oxidase enzymes to detoxify, poisonous substances.
It converts free radicals to H2O.

21
Q

What is the anatomy and Function of the Mitochondria?

A

This is a tiny thread-like shaped cell.
It has a double membrane wall, the outer membrane is smooth, the inner membrane has a shelf-like projections called “cristae”.
This supplies most of the ATP for the cell.

22
Q

What is the anatomy and Function of the Cytoskeleton?

A

This acts as the cells bones and muscles.
It provides internal framework which determines cell shape, supports other organelles and intercellular movement and transport.
The Cytoskeleton is made of Microtubules, intermedideat filiments and microfilliments.
