Anorectal Disorder Part 2 Flashcards
Juniper tar contains phenol should also be used sparingly and should NOT be ingested orally because organ failure and cardiac rhythm abnormalities may result
Camphor stimulates the central nervous system which may lead to convulsions or death so there’s been accidental poisonings with the oral ingestion of this especially in children.
Corticosteroid is a vasoconstrictor and antipruritic and onset may take up to 12 hours and the effect is longer than most other agents
Approximately 60% of the topical anal rectal contains hydrocortisone and it acts as a vasoconstrictor and antipruritic and produces liposomal membrane stabilization and antimitotic activity. We don’t want it use in concentration more than 1% like cortisone we would use is cortisone 1% and it’s the corticosteroid approved for nonprescription use and analrectal preparations for the temporary relief of minor anal itching
Local adverse reactions include skin reactions and atrophy with prolonged use so that’s using it for many times a day over the course of days and weeks and skin can become thin and atrophy…apply 3 to 4 times a day
Glycerin containing ones should NOT be used in pregnant and breastfeeding women
