Anterior/Posterior/Medial Thigh Compartment Muscles, Flashcards
Adductor muscles do?
Action: leg adduction at the hip.
Adductor (magnus and longus) muscles are where?
*Medial compartment of the thigh.
Magnus means? What is special inside the the adductor magnus a.k.a. “hunters cannal”.
Big. *Adductor magnus has a mini hole where it attaches close to your medial epicondyle of the knee!!!
What goes through the hole in adductor magnus?
An artery: the deep femoral artery!
Sartorius looks like? Action?
Seatbelt. Holds the rest of thigh muscles back (inside there).
Sartorius muscle (contracted) does what 3 actions?
Bends knee (flexion), flexes hip, externally rotates leg.
__________ is 2 DEEP muscles. Which 2? MOST POWERFUL HIP FLEXORS! Action: flexion.
Illiopsoas:
Psoas major
Iliacus
Tensor fascia latae is? Means? Action?
Means: tensor = tight, fascia = like fascia, latae = lateral aspect of leg.
Keeps the thigh STRAIGHT.
TFL is “sandwiched” between the superficial and deep fibers of the iliotibial (IT) band “police pants”.
Quadriceps femoris: name the 4 muscles? Where are they situated at the thigh?
4 headed muscles! Under sartorius: named RECTUS FEMORIS (centre, on top).
“Vastus sisters”
Vastus Lateralis (outside, under), Vastus Intermedius (middle, under), Vastus Medialis (inside, under).
Anterior, posterior, and medial thigh compartments do what 3 actions via 2 nerves named?
*Slide 3
*Sciatic nerve. Posterior thigh compartment. Makes it move.
*Femoral nerve. Anterior thigh compartment moves.
P: flexes leg at knee, extends thigh and the hip.
M: keeps you on horse.
A: kick a ball.
IT band (full name) =
Illiotibial tract “police pants”.
Most powerful hip abductor? 4 actions the muscle makes?
Gluteus maximus! Actions: Extension, external rotation, abductor, adduction.
The leg muscle (posterior) that resembles a heart? Action?
Gastrocnemius (heart - top). Flexes knee and foot.
Gastrocnemius attaches to the tendon (bottom) named?
Achilles tendon. Tendon attached muscle to bone.
Hip problems = __________ muscle not working properly (isn’t tight enough).
Gluteous medius. *problem makes muffin top.
