Atomic Structure Flashcards
a compound is the same as molecule but a molecule is not the same as a compound
A molecule formed together two or more same or different atoms and a compound is formed by two or more different atoms
Atom
A unit that makes all matter
An element of a Nuclues and that is made/contains Protons and Neutrons and electorns
The smallest unit of an element
Proton
Nucleus positvley charged
Neutron
Nucleus Nutrley charged
(NO CHARGED)
Electron
Negitivly charged
potion of an atom
No charge
Element
Have the same numbers of protons
One type of atom
(All atoms are the same)
Molecules
Two or more atoms that can be same or different
Compound
Two or more DIFFERENT atoms ONLY
Nucleus
Small postivily charged of an atom
They also contain Nutroun and Protron
How a material (object) becomes negatively or positively charged
When electrons are added from an object, it becomes negitive charged. When electrons are removed, the object becomes positively charged.
For Ex: If we remove the electrons from our hair and add them to the ballon then the ballon is positivly charged and the ballon can pick up paper because of the electrons
Why a material is either attracted or repelled by another material
Because it is the number of protons and elctrons….If they are attracted to something there would be more electrons
If two objects have the same charge, they repel (or push away) from each other like protons.
Positive and negative charges
A proton carries a positive charge (+) and an electron carries a negative charge (-)
